Roofing Services
A stain spreading across a bedroom ceiling. Granules collecting at the bottom of a downspout. A neighbour's tear-off that raises an uncomfortable question about your own roof. None of those tells you which service you need, and guessing costs money in one direction or the other — a replacement bought years early, or a patch that postpones a problem it cannot solve. APC Roofing works on houses, which is where nearly all of the company's work sits, and this page is a plain description of what each kind of roofing work involves.
Start by turning a worry into a finding
A qualified look at the roof converts a vague concern into something specific: three lifted shingles above the garage, a split pipe collar, a valley that has been steering water into the wrong place for two winters. Until that exists, every quote you receive is a quote for a different job.
Repair
Addresses a defined failure and leaves the sound parts of the roof alone. It is the right spend when the covering has real service life left, the damage is contained to one area, and the failure has an explainable cause rather than being one of several.
Replacement, and new installation
Replacement strips the old system back to the deck and rebuilds it. This is the core of what APC does — full roof replacements are the bulk of the company's work rather than one line on a services list — and it is the right call when a roof has run out of years rather than run into bad luck: failures appearing in new places each season, brittle material across whole slopes, granules in the gutters after every rain. New installation covers construction, additions, and buildings changing from one roofing system to another. It is the same craft without the tear-off, and the difficulty moves to tying new work into what is already there so the seam between old and new is both invisible and watertight.
Inspection
Produces a documented picture of condition and nothing else. No obligation attached, and the most useful thing to buy first if you genuinely do not know which of the other services applies. Ask for photographs tied to locations and a clear line between defects and watch items, and keep the report — two of them a few years apart show the direction a roof is heading far better than either one alone.
Maintenance
The scheduled work that keeps small findings from becoming claims — twice a year plus after severe weather, which is the cadence the National Roofing Contractors Association recommends. It extends a sound roof's life and does nothing for one already finished.
Houses have low-slope areas too
Over a porch, a garage, a dormer or an addition that never had the pitch for shingles. Those sections manage water rather than shedding it, they fail differently from the steep-slope roof around them, and they need a proper membrane and a properly flashed transition rather than roll roofing and a tube of sealant.
The layers that quietly decide all of it
Flashing, underlayment, ventilation, drip edge, fastening pattern, and the drainage that carries water clear of the foundation. None of them is visible once the job is done, all of them are where roofs actually fail, and the roof assemblies chapter of the residential code sets the minimums for most of them. If you read only one page of a proposal, read the one describing those.
