Why asphalt shingle roofing in Lee’s Summit fits most homes

Wind
Each shingle has a strip of sealant that bonds it to the row above once the sun warms it. Strong storm winds can break that bond, lift the tab and crease it. A creased shingle may lie back down and look fine, but it’s weakened and can tear off in the next blow. Shingles put on late in the fall sometimes don’t fully seal until warm weather returns, which leaves them more exposed through the winter.
Ice and freeze-thaw
Ice dams are common on Lee’s Summit roofs in a snowy winter. Snow melts higher up, the water runs down and refreezes at the cold eave, and the next melt backs up under the shingles.
