The storm came through fast. Now there are leaves plastered to the siding, a gutter hanging a little lower than it did yesterday, and you can’t tell from the driveway whether the roof is fine or quietly damaged. Meanwhile the first roofing flyers are already on the door.

Storm damage roof repair in Kansas City starts with one simple thing: finding out what actually happened up there. Some storms leave a roof untouched. Others leave damage that won’t leak for months. You deserve to know which one you’re dealing with before anyone talks to you about a claim or a contract.
APC Roofing is a GAF Certified contractor, in business since 2017, licensed and insured, with an office in Shawnee, Kansas. We inspect storm-damaged roofs across the metro, from Johnson County to Independence and Lee’s Summit, and the inspection is free.
What storms do to roofs around the metro
Kansas City gets a little of everything, and each kind of storm damages a roof differently.
Hail is the big one in spring and early summer. It knocks granules off shingles, bruises the mat underneath, dents metal and cracks tile. Most hail damage can’t be seen from the ground. Our hail damage roof repair page explains what to look for.
Wind from severe thunderstorms lifts and creases shingles along the edges, corners and ridge, and can peel back flashing or rip off whole sections. See wind damage roof repair for more.
Falling limbs crack shingles and can punch through the roof deck, sometimes with damage underneath that’s worse than what shows on top.
Winter storms bring ice and heavy snow. Ice that builds at the roof edge can push meltwater back up under shingles, and wet, heavy snow adds strain to older framing.
When the damage is broad enough to need a full repair plan or a new roof, our storm damage roofing page walks through the whole process.
After the storm: what you can safely check
Stay off the roof. Wet shingles are slick, and storm damage can make a roof less stable than it looks. From the ground and inside, look for:
- Shingle pieces, granules or metal in the yard and driveway
- Dents in gutters, downspouts and the metal vents on the roof
- Granules washing out of downspouts, which look like coarse sand
- Shingles that look lifted, folded back or missing
- New stains on ceilings or walls, or damp spots in the attic
- Limbs resting on the roof
If water is coming in, move valuables, catch the drip and take photos. Then call a roofer.
Why storm damage is easy to miss
A hail-bruised shingle often looks fine from the street. A wind-lifted shingle may lie back down once the gusts stop, with its seal broken underneath. And a small opening lets water into the deck and insulation long before a stain shows up indoors.
That’s why storm damage roof repair works best when it starts with a close inspection. We check every slope, the flashing, vents and gutters, and the attic, and photograph everything we find so you can see it for yourself.
Storm damage and your insurance claim
If there’s real storm damage, an insurance claim may help pay for the repair. You file the claim with your insurance company and pay your deductible. We document the damage, write an estimate and work with your adjuster. Our insurance roof claims page covers the details.
If the damage is minor and a claim doesn’t make sense, we’ll tell you that too.
A word about storm chasers
After big storms, crews from out of the area show up quickly. Some do fine work. Others don’t stick around once the check clears. Take your time, ask for a local address, get everything in writing and be wary of anyone who offers to waive or cover your deductible. Trust matters.

Storm damage questions from Kansas City homeowners
How soon after a storm should I get an inspection?
Sooner is better, while the damage is fresh and easy to document. Many insurance policies also have time limits for reporting storm damage.
Do you work in Johnson County and on the Missouri side?
Yes. We serve the whole metro, including Overland Park, Shawnee, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Independence and Blue Springs.
My roof isn’t leaking. Could it still be damaged?
Yes. Hail and wind damage often take months to turn into a leak. An inspection tells you where you stand.
Does storm damage always mean a new roof?
No. Plenty of storm damage is a repair. We’ll show you what we found and explain which one your roof needs.
