A hailstorm rolls across the metro, and by the weekend half your street has yard signs from roofing companies. You’re left wondering whether your own roof took damage, whether a roof insurance claim in Kansas City is worth the trouble, and whether filing one will come back to bite you at renewal time.

Those are fair worries. A claim is a big decision, and most homeowners make it only once or twice. It helps a lot to know what’s actually on your roof before you call your insurance company.
APC Roofing is a GAF Certified contractor, in business since 2017, licensed and insured, with an office in Shawnee, Kansas. We inspect storm-damaged roofs across the metro for free, document what we find and give you a written estimate. The claim stays yours.
Should you file a roof insurance claim in Kansas City?
Start with facts, not a guess. A free inspection tells you whether there’s real storm damage and how much of the roof it affects.
Some situations point toward filing:
- Hail hits spread across several slopes, with bruised or cracked shingles and bare spots where granules were knocked off
- Shingles torn off or creased by wind in more than one area
- Damage to metal vents, flashing and gutters along with the shingles
- A new leak that traces back to the storm
Other times the answer is no. A few scuffs, an old roof that’s simply worn out, or a small repair that costs less than your deductible usually aren’t worth a claim. If that’s what we find, we’ll say so. You don’t owe anyone a claim, and a straight answer now saves you time later.
Your policy matters too. Some policies treat older roofs or cosmetic damage differently, and most have time limits for reporting storm damage. Read the roof section of your policy, or ask your agent, before the inspection if you can.
Who does what on your claim
You own the policy. You decide whether to file, you file the claim with your insurance company and you pay your deductible.
Your insurance company sends an adjuster to inspect the roof and decides what the policy covers.
APC Roofing inspects the roof, documents the damage with photos and measurements, writes a detailed estimate and works with your adjuster so the damage gets seen. Then we do the repair or replacement.
We don’t take over your claim or speak to your insurer for you. We give you and your adjuster clear documentation, and you stay in control.
What the adjuster visit looks like
After you file, your insurance company schedules an adjuster to inspect the roof. It helps to have your roofer’s photos and estimate on hand, so nothing on the roof gets missed. We work with your adjuster and share the same documentation you have.
The adjuster writes up what the policy covers. If their write-up misses damage that’s in our photos, we’ll show you exactly where, and you can ask your insurance company to take another look. That conversation is between you and your insurer, and good documentation makes it much simpler.
Keep a simple paper trail
A few habits make any claim easier:
- Photograph the storm, the yard and any debris the same day, if it’s safe
- Save the date of the storm and your claim number
- Keep copies of the roofer’s inspection photos and the written estimate
- Write down the name of everyone you speak with and when
None of this takes long, and it saves a lot of back-and-forth.
Watch out for these after a storm
After big hail, crews from out of the area show up fast. Plenty are legitimate, but some aren’t. A few warning signs:
- Pressure to sign something on the porch the same day
- A promise that the roof will be “free”
- An offer to waive or cover your deductible. Be wary of anyone who makes it.
- No local office or no clear way to reach them later
Take your time. A roofer worth hiring will still be there tomorrow. Trust matters.
When insurance replaces the roof
If your claim covers an insurance roof replacement in Kansas City, the work itself is the same as any replacement: tear-off down to the deck, any damaged decking replaced, new underlayment and flashing, then the new roof. Many residential projects are finished in a single day. Our hail damage roof repair and storm damage roofing pages explain the repair side in more detail.
If the claim only covers part of the work, or you’d like to upgrade while the crew is there, roof financing in the Kansas City metro is available through Aqua Finance, Fortifi, Hearth and Home Run Finance.

Roof insurance questions from Kansas City homeowners
Do I need an inspection before I file?
It’s not required, but it helps. You’ll know whether the damage is real and how widespread it is before you start the claim.
Will you talk to my insurance company for me?
The claim is between you and your insurer, so you stay the one in contact with them. We document the damage, provide the estimate and work with your adjuster on the roof.
Who pays the deductible?
You do. Your deductible is your responsibility on any claim, and no honest roofer will offer to waive or cover it.
What if my claim is denied?
Ask your insurance company to explain the decision in writing. If our documentation shows damage they didn’t note, you can ask them to reinspect. A denial doesn’t stop you from repairing the roof, and financing is an option if you need it.
