- Solid decking, with soft or rotted boards replaced
- A high-temperature synthetic underlayment, since ordinary felt cooks under hot metal
- A fastening pattern that tightens at the corners and edges, where wind pulls hardest
- Hemmed trim locked onto continuous cleats so there’s nothing loose to catch
- Pipe boots and curbs flashed with folded metal, backed by sealant rather than relying on it
Low-slope areas, like a porch roof with very little pitch, may need a membrane instead of metal. Each slope gets measured before anything is recommended.
