A storm came through Republic last night. This morning there are bits of shingle in the yard, or maybe nothing looks wrong at all and a neighbor just told you their roofer found hail damage. Now you’re wondering whether to file a roof insurance claim in Republic, MO, and you’d rather not open a claim over damage that might not be there.

That hesitation makes sense. A claim is a real step, and the crews knocking on doors after a storm don’t always have your interests at heart. You deserve to see the damage for yourself, in photos, before you pick up the phone.
APC Roofing is a GAF Certified contractor, licensed and insured, with an office in Springfield. Your roof inspection is free. Call 913-398-5020 and you’ll know what’s up there before you decide anything.
Who does what on a roof insurance claim
It helps to know the roles before anything starts.
You own the policy. You file the claim with your insurance company, you talk with them about what’s covered, and you pay your deductible.
Your insurance company sends an adjuster, decides what your policy covers and pays according to its terms.
APC Roofing inspects the roof, photographs and measures the damage, writes a detailed estimate for the work and works with your adjuster if they have questions about what we found. We don’t decide coverage, and nothing we do changes what you owe under your policy.
Be wary of anyone who offers to waive or cover your deductible, or who pushes you to sign a contract on the spot before you’ve seen any proof of damage.
The first few days after a storm
You don’t need to panic, but a few things are worth doing early.
- Take your own photos from the ground: the roof, gutters, downspouts, siding, window screens and anything outside with a fresh dent.
- Write down the date of the storm. Your insurer will ask for it.
- If water is coming inside, move your belongings, catch the drip and photograph the stain.
- Look at your policy, or call your agent, to find out how long you have to report damage. Many policies set a time limit.
- Get the roof inspected before you file, so you know what you’re reporting.
Stay off the roof yourself. Wet or hail-pocked shingles are slick, and the damage that matters is often too subtle to spot from a ladder anyway.
What a storm inspection documents
Hail and wind leave different marks, and an inspection for a claim needs to show both clearly.
On an asphalt shingle roof, hail knocks granules loose and leaves dark, soft-feeling bruises. The fiberglass mat under a bruise can crack even when the shingle looks fine from the street, and that’s what shortens the roof’s life. Wind does its damage at the edges: creased shingles that flapped and lost their seal, shingles torn off entirely, ridge caps that lifted.
The metal on and around the roof tells part of the story too. Dents in vents, flashing, gutters and downspouts help show how large the hail was and which direction it came from.
From your inspection, you get photos of the damage, measurements of the roof, a slope-by-slope description of what was found, and a written estimate for the repair or replacement. That’s the same kind of information your adjuster looks at, which keeps the conversation focused on facts.
When filing may not make sense
Not every storm leaves damage worth a claim. If the only problem is a few missing shingles, the repair might cost less than your deductible, and a claim wouldn’t do much for you. Your inspection tells you which side of that line you’re on before you call your insurer. If we don’t find storm damage, you’ll hear that from us plainly.
When your insurer’s decision arrives
Your insurance company will send a summary of what it’s covering. Read it next to your estimate. If something documented in your inspection isn’t on it, like a damaged slope or a set of dented vents, you can send your insurer the photos and measurements and ask them to take another look. Coverage questions stay between you and your insurance company. Our part is the roof: what’s wrong with it and what it takes to fix it.
If the claim covers a full replacement, the work itself is the same as any roof replacement in Republic. For more on what storms do to roofs here, see storm damage in Republic and hail damage roof repair in Republic.

Roof insurance claim questions from Republic homeowners
Will filing a claim raise my premium?
That’s a question for your insurance agent. Rules differ from one company and policy to the next, so ask before you file if it’s on your mind.
Can you talk to my insurance company for me?
You file the claim and talk with your insurer about coverage. We provide the documentation and estimate, and we work with your adjuster on questions about the damage itself.
What if the inspection finds no storm damage?
Then you don’t need to file. You’ll still come away with photos and a clear picture of your roof’s condition.
Do I have to hire APC if I file a claim?
No. You choose your roofer. The inspection and estimate are free either way.
Know what you’re dealing with first
Hail damage often doesn’t leak right away. Bruised shingles keep shedding granules, the asphalt underneath starts to dry out in the sun, and a leak can show up a season or two later, when it’s harder to tie back to one storm.
Call 913-398-5020 or book your free inspection online. You’ll go into your claim with photos and facts instead of guesses, and come out with a sound roof and no surprises about what you owe. Trust matters, and we’d like to earn yours.
