Help with the paperwork after a storm

After a hurricane or a hard afternoon storm, the roof is only half of it. The other half is the claim. Here’s how it works with us: you file your own claim with your insurance company and you pay your own deductible. We inspect the roof, document the damage with photos, write up an estimate and work with your adjuster so the damage is clearly accounted for.

Fascia, soffits and siding

The roof edge is where a lot of Central Florida water damage starts. Fascia is the board that runs along the edge of the roof, right behind the gutter. When gutters overflow in a summer downpour, or when the metal drip edge is missing, water soaks that board, and it rots from the back side where you can’t see it. Soffits are the panels under the overhang. In a strong storm, loose soffit panels can blow out and let wind-driven rain into the attic.

We replace rotted fascia, refasten or replace soffits, and handle siding work, so the outside of your house is sealed as well as the roof is. If you’re already planning a reroof, it often makes sense to fix the fascia at the same time while the roof edge is open.

Getting your roof ready for solar

Solar panels sit on your roof for a long time, and taking them off and putting them back on to replace the roof underneath adds cost. So it’s worth asking how much life your roof has left before the panels go up. If the roof is close to the end, replacing it first can save you from paying twice. Gutters that protect the roof edge

Gutters move the heavy rain off your roof and away from the foundation. When they clog or pull loose, water spills behind them onto the fascia. Yes. Rotted fascia can be replaced on its own. If the roof is also near the end of its life, doing both together is usually simpler.

Should I replace my roof before adding solar?

If your roof has a lot of life left, probably not. If it’s close to needing replacement, replacing it first usually makes more sense. An inspection tells you which.
