There’s a brown ring on the ceiling that wasn’t there before the last storm. Or you found pieces of shingle in the yard after a windy night. You need roof repair in Kansas City, and you’d like the actual problem fixed without being talked into a whole new roof you might not need.

That’s a common worry, and a reasonable one. Leaks are hard to trace from inside the house, and after a big storm there are always a few crews more interested in selling replacements than in finding the one cracked pipe boot that’s causing all the trouble.
APC Roofing is a GAF Certified contractor, licensed and insured, and we’ve been fixing roofs since 2017. We’ll find the source, show you photos of it and tell you plainly whether a repair will do. The inspection and estimate are free. Call 913-398-5020.
Where Kansas City roofs usually leak
Most leaks start at a handful of weak points, and the weather here works on all of them.
Pipe boots. The rubber collar around each plumbing vent pipe dries and cracks after years of summer sun and winter cold. Once it splits, rain runs straight down the pipe into the attic. It’s one of the most common leaks we see and one of the simplest repairs.
Flashing at walls and chimneys. Wherever the roof meets something vertical, metal flashing is supposed to turn the water. Over time it loosens, rusts or pulls away from the brick, and a past repair done with a tube of caulk usually lets go after a season or two of freezing and thawing.
Wind-lifted shingles. Strong straight-line winds from summer storms can break the seal strip that holds each shingle down. Once a shingle has been lifted and creased, it tends to keep lifting until it tears off.
Hail bruises. Hail knocks granules loose and can crack the mat inside a shingle. The roof may not leak right away. The damaged spots wear out faster and start letting water in a season or two later.
Ice dams. In winter, heat from the house melts snow on the upper roof, and the water refreezes at the cold eaves. The ice backs water up under the shingles, and you see it as stains along exterior walls or soffits.
Valleys and nail pops. Valleys carry more water than any other part of the roof, so worn shingles there leak first. Freeze-thaw cycles can also push roofing nails up until they poke through the shingle above.
Why the stain may not be under the leak
Water rarely drips straight down. It gets in at one spot, runs along the decking or a rafter, and drops onto the ceiling several feet away. That’s why patching the shingles right above a stain so often doesn’t stop the leak.
We trace it from both sides. On the roof we look at every opening and seam uphill of the stain, and in the attic we follow the water marks on the wood back to where they start. Then you get photos of what we found before any work begins.
Roof repair in Kansas City after hail or wind
If a storm just came through, have the roof checked even if nothing looks wrong from the ground. Dented gutters, downspouts and metal vents are good clues that hail was big enough to damage shingles.
If the damage is from a storm, you may decide to file an insurance claim. You file it yourself and you pay your own deductible. We document the damage with photos, give you a written estimate and work with your adjuster. Be wary of anyone who offers to waive or cover your deductible. Our hail damage roof repair in Kansas City page explains the process in more detail.
Matching shingles on an older roof
Shingle colors fade, and manufacturers retire product lines. On an older roof, a perfect match may not exist anymore. We’ll find the closest shingle available and show you how it will look before we install it. On a back slope, most people are fine with a close match. On the front of the house you may want to talk through options.
When a repair stops making sense
Repairs are the right call when the damage is limited and the rest of the roof has life left. They stop making sense when the shingles are brittle and crack as they’re lifted, granules are piling up in the gutters, leaks keep showing up in new places, or hail has hit the whole roof.
If that’s where your roof is, we’ll tell you and show you why. Our roof replacement in Kansas City page covers what comes next. If the problem is a single stubborn leak, our roof leak repair in Kansas City page goes deeper on tracking it down.

Roof repair questions from Kansas City homeowners
Can you repair just part of my roof?
Yes, in most cases. Pipe boots, flashing, a section of wind-damaged shingles or a worn valley can usually be fixed on their own.
Is it a leak, or is it condensation?
In the coldest part of winter, frost can build up on the nail tips and decking in a poorly vented attic. When it warms up, that frost melts and drips, and it looks a lot like a leak. A look in the attic usually tells the two apart, and the fix for condensation is airflow, not shingles.
Will insurance pay for my roof repair?
Insurance typically covers sudden damage such as hail or wind, not normal wear. That’s between you and your insurer. If you file, we’ll document the damage and work with your adjuster, and you pay your deductible.
Is the inspection free?
Yes. Inspections and estimates are free, with no obligation.
Fix it once and stop worrying about it
Water that gets past the shingles soaks into decking and insulation long before it shows on a ceiling. A pipe boot that costs little to replace today can mean new drywall and rotted wood after a few more storms.
Get the leak found and fixed properly. Then the next spring storm can roll through, the ceiling stays clean and you’re not waiting for the next drip. Your satisfaction is our reputation. Call 913-398-5020 to book your free inspection.
