What TPO is
TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single-ply roofing membrane that comes in wide rolls, usually white. It goes on low-slope roofs: porches, carports, additions, Florida rooms and commercial buildings. The sheets overlap at the seams, and a hot-air welder melts the overlapping edges together so they become one piece.
That welded seam is the biggest practical difference from older rubber roofs, where the seams are held with tape and adhesive. A good weld is as strong as the sheet around it, and a roofer can check it by running a probe along the full length of the seam.
Why TPO roofing in Altamonte Springs makes sense

How a TPO roof goes on
A TPO roof is a stack of layers. The deck is at the bottom, then rigid insulation, often tapered to give the roof its fall toward the drain, then a cover board, then the membrane. The sheet is either fastened through the seams with plates and screws or glued down across its whole underside, depending on the deck and the building.
Thickness is measured in mils, or thousandths of an inch. Forty-five and 60 mil are common on homes, and thicker sheets are used where there’s more foot traffic, like around AC units. You can’t tell the difference from the ground, so the thickness should be written on your estimate.
The details finish the job. At the edges, metal edging gets fastened every few inches to lock the sheet down against wind. Pipes get molded TPO boots. Where a porch roof meets a sloped main roof, the membrane should run up under the shingles or tile so water lands on top of it, never behind it.
TPO repair
TPO is very repairable. A puncture from a branch or an opened seam gets a matching patch heat-welded over it and probed to confirm the bond. TPO or EPDM?
EPDM is a black rubber membrane with taped seams. It’s flexible, handles foot traffic well and is still a good roof when it’s installed right, but it absorbs heat.
